Well guess who's back? I know, I know it's been a minute since I graced you all with the flick of my wrist and the tap, tap, and peck, peck of my keyboard. It's been a rollercoaster ride, but I'll fill you all in another time about my life - but in the meantime check out On Beat with KJV, a podcast where I and an occasional guest will be discussing topics that are of interest to me and I hope for you also. These topics pertain to life, health, a bit of of cryptozoology and of course what I am mainly know for - MUSIC. So tune in every other Tuesday on your favorite podcast platform such as Anchor, Spotify, Apple Podcast and more.

Now let's get to grit of why I'm writing on this blog today. I was contacted by the one and only powerful Oz, well not actually, but with his writing, imagery, dialogue, adaptability and his ability to give you quality content; which keeps his works in high demand. So, no he is not the great and powerful Oz, but believe what i tell you the author R. Weir can make you tap the heel of your ruby red slippers, the new Jordan's, or those dope timberland boots and send you on a journey better than Oz.

Writer's Block

12/13/2018

For those who love to write, it flows easily from that quill, pen, pencil or for me the keyboard, but it has it's headaches. For one, you have to make it habitual. One must make it a habit like smoking, exercising, or even biting one's fingernails - making it a habit or doing it frequently is a must in order be creative. There are a lot of ways to be creative but if you are a writer or want to be the next number one on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or the New York Times selling list you have to write. But how can one do this when being possessed by the evil, Writer's Block or what some call the "Brain Fart"?

Well with all that said here are my top five things I use to help me with the dreaded Writer's Block.

1. Music - Whether you produce music or just love to listen to it; take time out to listen to your favorite jams or create the next great hit. It can help relax and get those creative juices flowing.

2. Reading - Grab a book from your favorite author, such as R. Weir the author of the Jarvis Mann Detective Series or works by Kiana Donae when I am in the mood for poetry, but please choose the genre and author you love. Reading  can be very inspirational and help one to know down that brick wall.

3. Exercise - For those who love to exercise this is a no brainer, the energy you build up is ready to explode and man words just flow - well for me this method works the best.

4. Play - Yeap, I said play. Take some time out and play a video game on that PS4 you bought just to watch blu-ray movies. Whether you want to save the world from zombies or be a team member of a military squad on a rescue mission; play helps one to see the project you are working on with fresh ideas and fresh eyes.

5 Writing - Guess you thought that this would not make my list because you are trying to overcome Writer's Block, but this is the main and best option as it keeps you in the writing mode and helps it to become habitual. Brainstorming, outlines, bullet points, grocery lists, or even writing about other topics for your next book or article will help break that age-old nemesis, The Writer's Block.

These are just a few ways to help you with Writer's Block and the ones that I use often. Try some of these to see if they work for you or if you have other methods please share your techniques with myself and others by commenting. That's it from your boy B.K. Maxwell - until next time Peace, Love & Hairgrease.

Wow!!!! It has been awhile since I have posted and boy do i have a story to tell. First of all, let me let those know that I was not ignoring your book review requests, i was just in a slump and i mean a big one. I will just make this short and sweet for you - last September I was diagnosed with kidney disease, and by February of this year I started dialysis, yeap my kidneys failed very quickly; it was a devastating blow - mentally  and physically, Also, to add to the fire I had gotten diabetic ulcers on the bottom of both feet which I have been dealing with also; which are now finally healing. It has been a very rocky journey this year and very life changing. But with a very good family support team, friends and blessing from the True Creator I am back on the scene. Looking forward to writing more reviews and I am also working on my Young Mystery Series so check back often for updates. Until next time - Peace, Love & Hairgrease!!!

Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Fa, la, la, la, la, La, la, la, la. I know, I know it's the month of August and I'm singing Chrismas songs. Well it's a good reason for it and that reason my fellow authors, poets, artist and lovers of books is; I got another dose of action, adventure, and a lot of Jarvis Mann!!! Yeap, R. Weir has done it once again with my favorite private investigator in The Case of the Invisible Souls although this one is a short story by no means is it short on what R. Weir gives you - that fix, you know the one that can only fill that void in a detective/mystery book junkie's life.

I know it has been awhile since I have posted a reveiw and the last one was also by R. Weir but please do forgive me I have been reading but you know how life gets in the way sometimes. Now with that said I am going to jump right into it.

Wow!!! Where do i start? This story is so well written and filled with all the right elements that a  great author lays on paper for you to see. It is not far from the Christmas holidays and Jarvis is going through his normal routine, and reflecting on his last case and death of his brother when he gets a knock at the door from a homeless man.

Jarvis takes on this case since things are a bit slow and does it for free out of the kindness of his heart; thinking that nothing would come of this but little as he realizes he will be on a case that takes him on a wild ride. This ride will lead Jarvis to help the homeless, which consist mosly of our country's veterans, becoming part of the homeless community himself, going toe to toe with two sets of thugs, going up again a money hungry company that will do anything to make a profit, and in the end with his lawyer friend Barry save a shelter and the people who depend on it for their survival. A very intriguing story I must say and i did not even spoil it for you.

Thank you once again R. Weir for bringing us yet another classic in short story form. Hint: Do you think we will see Barry in his own series; you know, anew school Perry Mason - just throwing that out there as I know it would do well also.

Sorry for the long delay as the end of 2016 was a bumpy ride for my family and I, but as always we pulled it together and it ended up great. Since I have finally gotten some breathing room, my Kindle Fire and I have gotten reacquainted and will be giving you more great reviews to help you select the best books, well best works, no the best adventures you can take without leaving the privacy of your own home or the best nearby coffee or doughnut shop; the latter works best for me with a ice cold cup of almond milk. With that said, let me tell you R. Weir how are you not the new King of Kindle and why aren't the Jarvis Mann Novels a Netflix Series yet? Seriously why?!! lol If you are new to my blog please do check out other reviews and you will see what I mean and hopefully agree.

Desscription:
Cases come and cases go, but private detective Jarvis Mann can't land an easy one these days. The cops are unhappy Jarvis digs into a murder case they closed, uncovering a crooked tech company, hell-bent on stealing their customers' IDs and US government secrets. Soon Russian mobsters and Chinese government goons arrive to bribe, threaten, beat, and finally kill, in an attempt to stop him and safeguard their criminal enterprise. Can he protect the life of the widow who hired him to find her husband's killer? Will the founder's beautiful and sexy ex-wife provide the key he needs to crack the case, as Jarvis slugs and shoots his way to a pulse-pounding conclusion.

This novel is rated as Ace Detective – meaning it is a must read and needs to be added to your library.

Man I am lost for words as this series gets better with every case that Jarvis takes on and the way R. Weir uses his imagination and literary skills in combination with his attention to detial is what puts the Jarvis Mann Dective Novels up there with the best of any detective series. I know it is just a book but I feel like one day I am really going to run into Mr. Mann, you know what I mean - R.Weir's skills still have me confused as I sometimes cannot be sure if I just watched the Jarvis Mann Detective Series on Hulu/Netfix or just finished reading the book.

Without spoiling the whole story for you, Jarvis is trying to solve another case, in which the wife of an IT professional is murdered in a robbery, so it seems, but the wife suspects foul play and calls Jarvis to look into it. During this case, Jarvis goes up against a Cyber Security Company called WANN Systems, the Russian and Chinese mafia, finds his way to Las Vegas and almost in a threesome with a couple that both adore him, an all night love fest with the ex-wife of one of the co-founder's of WANN Systems, almost being killed not once but three times, and two of those times saved by a beautiful lady and the other by a very unlikely ally, finding a friend in a past love, the fight of the century - Jarvis Mann pitted against an adversary with the speed and martial art skill of Bruce Lee, and to top it off Jarvis himself may be charged with murder. Well that is all I can say for now - get your copy of Dead Man Code: A Jarvis Mann Detective Novel to find out for yourself.

Helmet Required - by Steve Ross

Wow, I guess I am a bit rusty as it has been awhile since I have posted a review,  But believe me this book right here will and can be enjoyed by children and adults alike, that is if the adult is still a kid at heart, This story is fiction but let me tell you one thing at the rate the world is going today this may be reality in the near future. Steve Ross is very talented and although this book is for kids it has a dark side to it, not to worry it is on the lines of those old tv shows that I watched as reruns when I was a kid, such as Kolchak: The Night Stalker and
The Twilight Zone, but with a funny humor to them.

Description:
Imagine a future where helmet use gets a little crazy: You need a helmet to drive, shower (slip and fall statistics), walk, breathe. Safety first!
Now there are special helmets for work and school, casual wear, or more formal occasions. You'd look (and feel) almost naked without one.

In "Helmet Required," a cartoon-illustrated Kindle book for kids (or perhaps it's a graphic novel), the young narrator's helmet/visor is a computer screen or TV. The helmet also protects him from biological or chemical dangers in his environment.
Overnight, nature sounds lull his mom to sleep, self-actualizing messages help her with weight loss, and alarms wake her up. And wherever you go, indoors or not, helmet use is a must, as granddad quickly discovers.

.This novel is rated as Investigator – meaning it is a must read and needs to be added to your library.

Steve Ross would make a great director and writer for kid's version of the Twilight Zone, The book is great for children showing them the safety of wearing a helmet with a touch of satire to boot, while also showing how things that are good for you can also be blown way out of proportion. This book is short and written well, but I had to give it a rating of four because of the touch of darkness that could have been left out about shooting the criminals, the drilling the helmet to the skulls of its wearers, and the dreaded punishment of the iron mask, which has its place in this fictional society and brings an element of fun in how it is used as punishment in Helmet Required. I particularly love the scene when the grandfather made a break for it in an attempt to evade the Helmet Patrol.

To sum it up Steve Ross did a great job with this story and I would love to see more work from him and maybe just maybe he will be the next R.L. Stine if he continues with other great short stories such as Helmet Required.

Has it really been that long? Life just gets in the way and makes time fly. I do apologize for not posting and keeping you up to date, but I was in a bit of funk and could not read nor write; now  that little quandary has been dealt with and those lemons turned out to make some great lemon aid. Let me get back on track; ummm didn't I tell you that R. Weir would be up there with the likes of Parnell Hall, well if he is not then he should be and may I mention again, "TV SERIES!!!" I do believe that he can over throw the King of Kindle, with no problem. lol If you don't know who the King of Kindle is then I suggest you google it after reading this review and I bet you will agree.

Description: Still recovering from his last case, which brought painful injuries and heartache, Jarvis picks himself up to help family out of a dire situation. A call from his sister-in-law leads him back to where he grew up. Big brother, Flynn, has dug himself a hole he can't climb out of, one filled with lies and deceit. Jarvis lends a hand, and is soon caught between Feds and gangsters, leading to peril for all involved.

With sharp tongue, nerves of steel, and fierce determination, Jarvis comes to his brother’s reluctant assistance. But can Jarvis save him from the depths to which he has fallen without getting them all killed? Coming to terms with his life growing up, and how he became who he is, Jarvis faces his past, present and future, and confronts an evil worse than anything he’s encountered before, one that may leave Jarvis, and all those he holds dear, dead.

This novel is rated as Ace Detective – meaning it is a must read and needs to be added to your library.

R. Weir, you would make a great geography teacher. The way you go into detail of scenery and imagery not only could I navigate the streets of Colorado; now I could possibly get around without the aid of OnStar in the city of Des Moines, IA plus I would know exactly what to wear also. What can I say, another well written novel filled with excitement, romance, danger, regret, fear and if you want action well it is filled to rim with it in Blood Brothers: A Jarvis Mann Detective Novel.

Jarvis gets way more that he bargains for this round. Without spoiling it for you, we learn of a past love interest that may or may not cause problems in his relationship with Melissa, can a natural born killer be a great cook and be fond of kindles, will old ties lead to help in his home town, and will being a pest leave a blood trail which may include the now veteran PI himself. Well written with just the right twists that makes a great detective novel a book that you can't just put down. You will be on edge and pulled into the world of Jarvis Mann, and believe me you will never have a boring moment. R.Weir will be the King of Kindle in the near future.
